In an industry with an overwhelming amount of product launches daily, The Empties Edit helps you cut through the noise. To help you find your new beauty and wellness favorites, this series highlights the tried-and-true products our writers constantly empty out and re-up on.

Prepping for ESSENCE Festival feels like a mad dash.

Of course, ahead of speaking on daily panels, you have your regular appointments for your nails (this year, I got them done at Suite Eleven in Flatbush), hair (I typically get braids from Helena Koudou), and even squeezing in a facial, if you’re lucky (shout out to Tend To Studios).

Then, there’s planning out what you’re going to wear. For me, that meant mapping out outfits for 11 panels, a few other appearances, and the evening concert series. Thanks to extremely talented stylist Tyler Okuns, this portion of things is always made easier.

On top of all of this, for me, this year, I had to worry about eczema flare ups—something I’ve been dealing with chronically since the end of last year. A trigger that I’ve discovered is extreme heat—usually leading to heat rash and an eczema outbreak. So, knowing that I’d be headed to one of the hottest places in the US, New Orleans, it’s safe to say that I was a little bit nervous about how my skin would react.

Luckily, I discovered OSEA’s Hyaluronic Body Serum, thanks to Nas’tassia Simpson of Tend To Studios, right before I headed down south.

I’m always reluctant when it comes to trying new products these days, but, of course, anytime a trusted expert recommends one, I’m all for it.

This product ticks so many boxes, too. Not only does it have the National Eczema Association seal of approval, it’s also fragrance (one of my triggers) free and extremely hydrating without feeling heavy.

Why? This is in large part thanks to ingredients like hyaluronic acid and aloe, which kept my skin feeling cool and nourished, as opposed to suppressing and trapping any heat—which heavy moisturizers tend to do in the summer.

I felt as though the serum not only kept me hydrated and cool, but also calmed down my flares. What more could a girl ask for?

When it comes to how I apply it, I tend to reach for it as the first thing after I get out of the shower, to lock in the moisture. It can be left alone, with sunscreen on top, or, for an extra layer of hydration and softness, I like to add a whipped shea butter on top, before adding any sunscreen.

So, if you’re on the market for a lightweight, cooling hydrator this summer (at this point, who’s not in this heat?), look no further than this serum. Feel free to thank me later.
