A man has shared how a routine call from his daughter’s school allegedly uncovered that part of the money he sent for her school fees had been diverted, leaving the child’s fees incomplete just weeks before examinations.

According to the man, his wife informed him that their daughter’s school fees were ₦180,000.

He said he immediately transferred the amount to her because she planned to pay the fees on her way to work and later sent him what appeared to be a payment receipt bearing the school’s logo.

However, about three weeks later, the school contacted him to explain that his daughter had been sent home because her fees had not been fully paid. The bursar asked him to forward the receipt for verification.

The man said the school later informed him that the receipt was not genuine and that the transaction reference could not be found in its payment system.

He said, “I was going to replace the money before you found out.”

According to him, his wife later admitted using ₦110,000 of the money and showed him several identical wrappers, explaining, “Our women’s August meeting uniform. I couldn’t be the only one without it.”

Husband vows to pay fees directly

The man said the discovery changed his perspective, insisting that the issue was no longer just the missing money but what had been prioritised over their daughter’s education.

He added that he would henceforth pay school fees directly to the school and had demanded that his wife refund the ₦110,000. According to him, although she described him as “a wicked man,” he remained firm in his decision.

The story has since generated widespread reactions online, with many social media users debating financial trust in marriage and the importance of prioritising children’s education.
