Nigerian rapper Ycee has sparked debate online after expressing concern over what he described as the decline of academic excellence and the growing celebration of ignorance in society.

Speaking during a recent interview, the music star argued that Nigeria is gradually moving away from rewarding education and intellectual achievement, warning that the trend could have long-term consequences for younger generations.

“Nigerian society is no longer celebrating academic excellence. People don’t even want to go to school anymore. It’s not even Yahoo culture anymore; now we have a ‘Peller culture,’” he said.

Ycee went on to describe what he called an “Olodo uprising,” arguing that society now appears to be making ignorance acceptable rather than encouraging knowledge, learning, and critical thinking.

According to him, the situation is becoming increasingly alarming as the country’s educational system continues to face numerous challenges.

“This ‘Olodo’ uprising we are witnessing is terrible. It feels like we are trying so hard to accommodate ignorance so people won’t feel bad, and now they seem to be the majority. The massive attack on Nigeria’s educational system is alarming, aside from kidnappings and Boko Haram attacks,” he added.

The rapper further questioned the message being sent to young people when individuals gain fame, influence, and financial success through controversial or unintelligent content online.

His remarks have since generated mixed reactions online, with some Nigerians agreeing that academic achievement is no longer celebrated, while others argued that social media has simply created new paths to success outside traditional education.
