    NORFOLK, Va. – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) has named Morgan State University’s Erick Hunter the 2025-26 Male Student-Athlete of the Year, the conference office announced Wednesday.

    The MEAC Male Student-Athlete of the Year Award recognizes a male student-athlete who has distinguished himself academically, athletically and through service and leadership. The recipient must be in his final season of intercollegiate eligibility and competition under MEAC and NCAA regulations in the sport for which he was nominated.

    Candidates are evaluated on their academic achievement, athletic excellence, commitment to service and leadership, and overall impact on their campus, local community and/or at the regional or national level. 

    Hunter capped his 2025 campaign with a long list of postseason honors, earning 2025 All-MEAC First Team recognition while also being named to the BOXTOROW HBCU All-American Team, FCS Football Central All-American Third Team and Phil Steele’s FCS All-American Third Team.

    Hunter was a finalist for the HBCU Player of the Year, Doris Robinson Scholar-Athlete Award and Buck Buchanan Award, and was selected to play in both The American Bowl and HBCU Legacy Bowl.

    In 12 starts, Hunter led the MEAC with 102 tackles, including 53 solo stops, while adding 14 tackles for loss and four sacks. He also recorded five quarterback hurries, forced four fumbles and intercepted one pass. Hunter finished his Morgan State career ranked second in program history with 298 tackles.
