Antoine Fuqua’s ‘Michael’ has officially become the highest-grossing biopic of all time with $977.4M at the global box office, surpassing Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer—which previously held the worldwide title.

Star Jaafar Jackson took to Instagram to celebrate the milestone, writing: “Highest grossing biopic of ALL TIME wow!! Thank you all so much. This record, this accomplishment. It was a dream goal of mine for this film and you all made it real. And I promise you Michael is up there absolutely grinning about this. This one’s for him.”

The record is the latest in a string of milestones for the film. ‘Michael’ previously became Lionsgate’s highest-grossing film of all time—surpassing 2013’s ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’—and the highest-grossing musical biopic ever, overtaking ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ at $911.9M. The film is still on its way to crossing the historic $1 billion mark.
