Max Verstappen will headline a special live event titled "Max Vs. 100" at Silverstone on September 16. The four-time Formula 1 world champion is set to start at the back of a 101-kart grid and attempt to overtake 100 other drivers. The field comprises an eclectic mix of professional athletes, prominent influencers and selected fans. The unprecedented race will be broadcast live globally on Disney+ and the ESPN app while British comedian Mo Gilligan hosts the spectacle. Viewers in the United States seeking a traditional television broadcast can catch a tape-delayed airing on ESPN2 later that day.The massive competition returns Verstappen to his racing roots on a custom-designed track built entirely at the British circuit. French driver and kart designer David Terrien created the specialized layout. He noted that configuring a track to accommodate more than twice the typical number of karts required a completely fresh approach. The event format places a premium on racecraft and traffic management over outright speed. Red Bull sim racing driver Sebastian Job recently tested a 50-driver shakedown of the concept. The digital racer explained that completing the necessary overtakes within the allotted time was extremely difficult even with half the intended field.Overcoming the staggering numbers will demand the superstar driver to tap into foundational skills he learned beginning at age four. Verstappen rose rapidly through national and international karting competitions to win multiple European and world titles prior to his Formula 1 debut in 2015. Despite spending more than a decade focused on single-seaters, the reigning champion expressed confidence that reverting to karting dynamics will feel completely natural. He noted that the fundamentals of starting, defending and overtaking remain universal across disciplines. The participant list aiming to block his path includes ultrarunner Arda Saatçi, freestyle mountain biker Matt Jones and basketball shooting coach Chris Matthews. Prominent internet personalities such as TheGrefg, Caedrel and TheDonato will also hit the grid. When asked what he looks forward to most about the daunting challenge, the F1 phenom simply stated he is eager to see the sheer carnage unfold in front of him.
