There are many holes in the arguments surrounding who killed Tupac, and with Duane “Keefe D” Davis on trial, there’s a lot of skepticism about how this will ultimately end. In a recent interview, Tupac’s sister admitted that their family has low expectations of the outcome in the trial, especially given their history.

It doesn’t help that there have been conflicting statements surrounding Pac’s death in the past 30 years. According to testimony from former FBI agent Wade Lee, Keefe D once told the FBI he did not know who killed Tupac Shakur, instead pointing investigators toward Compton police officers.

Per All Hip-Hop, Lee said investigators were questioning Keefe D about drug trafficking and gang activity, not Shakur’s murder, though he was already a person of interest in the case. According to Lee and the FBI notes, Davis said Suge Knight and Tupac had attacked his nephew, Orlando Anderson, in Las Vegas in September 1996. Keefe D said the confrontation stemmed from an earlier mall incident and claimed he previously had no issues with Knight or his associates.

Although Davis did not identify Anderson as Shakur’s shooter during the 1998 interview, he accused Compton police officers associated with Reggie Wright Jr and Suge Knight of murdering Tupac when asked to speculate.

    Keefe D’s Conflicting Accounts

Still, that account later conflicted with Davis’ 2008 statements to investigators. In that interview, Davis said Anderson, who was sitting in the back of a white Cadillac, fired the fatal shots while Davis sat in the front. Anderson was never charged and consistently denied involvement before being fatally shot in an unrelated Compton shooting in May 1998. Keefe D repeated this account in his memoir, Compton Street Legend, admitting that he passed the gun to the backseat after the fight in Las Vegas.

Prosecutors paint Keefe D as the person who orchestrated the shooting, but they stop short of accusing him of pulling the trigger. However, his defense said that the prosecutors lack corroborating evidence. We’ll keep you posted on any more updates.
