Notable singer Brymo has said that Nigeria should begin seriously considering the possibility of an Igbo president, arguing that the country needs to move beyond past divisions and embrace national reconciliation.

Speaking during a recent interview, Brymo stated that it is time for Nigerians to “let go of the past” and create a more inclusive political environment.

His remarks are notable because they come after he faced significant criticism during the 2023 election cycle over comments that many interpreted as opposing an Igbo presidency.

The singer, however, expressed concerns that insecurity in the South-East could complicate the push for a president of Igbo extraction.

According to him, insecurity has increasingly become a political issue that some groups across different regions may use as leverage in negotiations and power struggles.

Brymo also praised President Bola Tinubu, claiming that the administration’s handling of the South-West security outfit, Amotekun Corps, helped prevent it from evolving into a separatist movement.

    He said …

“I think it is high time for Igbo presidency. It is time for Nigeria to start considering Igbo presidency. Let’s let go of the past and reconcile our differences and unit as a nation.

“But how will we get there if the South-east is also slowly descending into chaos? Anytime any group in Nigeria wants presidency, they will start militancy. That is what is going on. If you want presidency, start kidnapping and insecurity.

“One of the reasons I like President Bola Tinubu is because he stopped Amotekun from taking off. He didn’t support it. Imagine if Yorubas have Amotekun active, South-eastern insecurity active, Boko Haram active, and South-south militants active, do we still have a country?”
