Nollywood actor Shawn Faqua‘s wife, Dr. Sharon Ifunanya Maduekwe, popularly known as Akwa Ugoo, has opened up about the challenges she faced while dating him, admitting that his honesty and deep Christian values initially made her suspicious.

Speaking in a recent interview, she revealed that Shawn insisted they would not have sex before marriage and even refused to allow her visit his house alone, saying he had to seek the Holy Spirit’s direction before agreeing.

According to her, his behaviour made her believe he was hiding another woman, especially after he initially declined her request to spend the night at his house when she arrived late in Lagos and couldn’t get a hotel room.

    In her words, she said:

“When I first started dating him, he was like we can’t have sex till marriage. He also said I couldn’t come to his house because we’d be alone. One day, when my hotel was fully booked, I asked if I could stay over. He said he needed to ask the Holy Spirit first. I told my friends, ‘This guy is not honest. I know he’s hiding something.’”

Sharon said Shawn eventually agreed after praying, but instead of sharing the room with her, he slept in the sitting room while she used the bedroom. She admitted she still struggled to believe he was genuinely being truthful because of experiences from her previous relationship.

She also disclosed that Shawn’s way of loving her felt overwhelming at first, explaining that he consistently treated her exactly how she wanted to be loved without her asking, something she had never experienced before.

According to Sharon, even when she asked for a two-week break shortly before they got engaged, Shawn refused to give up, insisting he had taken the matter to God.
