Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has accused the Department of State Services (DSS) of tracking his movements during his visit to Rivers State.

Sowore made the allegation after attending the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Annual General Conference in Port Harcourt.

Sowore claims tracking device was discovered

In a post on X, Sowore alleged that the DSS had been monitoring his movements since his arrival in Port Harcourt.

He said the discovery was made after he delivered a speech at a Kay Hikers gathering.

According to him, members of his team noticed unusual movements and decided to change vehicles.

Sowore claimed that an electronic tracking device was subsequently found attached underneath the security vehicle they had been using.

He alleged that the device was planted to monitor his movements during his stay in the state.

The lawless @OfficialDSSNG has apparently been tracking my movements since I arrived in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, for the Nigerian Bar Association Annual General Conference.

“After my speech at the Kay Hikers gathering, we noticed some strange movements and decided to switch vehicles.

“That was when we discovered an electronic tracking device attached underneath the security vehicle we had used that night.

“They are really scared,” Sowore wrote.

The activist did not provide further details about the device or identify who allegedly installed it.

The DSS has not publicly responded to the allegation at the time of reporting.

Sowore’s claim comes amid his continued criticism of government agencies and security authorities over what he describes as attempts to monitor or intimidate him.
