    Aldon Smith, the former San Francisco 49ers pass rusher who burst onto the NFL scene with record-setting sack totals as a rookie before off-field struggles derailed a promising career, has died. He was 36. The 49ers announced Smith’s death Saturday in a statement, saying he passed earlier that day in Northern California.
