    Happy Summer!

    These days, it is easy to feel like the world is on fire: all of our bills are too high, we’re at war with Iran, the government is…well, you know how stressful politics is right now. Our news cycle usually feels like one sad or depressing story after another. But there is still an abundance of Black joy and Black excellence in our midst. So we’ve gathered up some of the week’s most cheerful news to help take your happy meter up a notch. Enjoy—and be sure to share this story in your favorite group chat.     First up, ATL couple Tiny and her hubby T.I. (who just ripped the stage at our ESSENCE Festival of Culture last month) celebrated their “Sweet 16” with a stunning vow renewal in Jamaica! The island destination gathering was enjoyed by close family and friends. The couple, who together share 7 children in their blended bunch, originally wed on July 30, 2010.     We adore virtually cheering on little Black girls living their best lives and taking horseback riding lessons while they’re still in the pre-school stage! Miss Dakota fits that bill and the adorable equestrian-in-training also knows how to put a lewk together. Get into all the fun with Dakota and Jack-Jack her horse here.

    HBCU news is never simply a trend for us. Forbes recently released their Top 10 HBCU list and we are please to see that Fisk University was in the number. Topping the list in the number one spot is Howard University, followed by Spelman and Morehouse Colleges. Also on the list are some usual suspects: Hampton University, Tuskegee University, Xavier University of Louisiana and Clark Atlanta University. Two smaller HBCUs ,Tougaloo College and Talladega College, are in the coveted top ten as well.

    At an amazing 108-years-old, Ms. Susan Young Browne still drives her own car (a trusty Subaru), lives in her own home and maintains an active social life! She’s also the oldest living graduate of HBCU, Delaware State University. Read all about Ms. Browne’s secrets (being independent and eating healthy are a couple she advises) to living a long and fulfilling life here.

    A round of applause of our girl, Tems! The chart-topping singer recently made history. With an impressive 20.5 million certified units, the Nigerian star joins Wizkid as the only African artists to surpass 20 million certified units in the United States, as recognized by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). She has exceeded 20.5 million certified units across all credits nationally.
