Nigerian businessman and public figure Chidi Mike has made a series of political remarks during a recent BBC Igbo interview, speaking on national politics, leadership choices, and personal relationships within Nigeria’s social and political elite.

During the interview, he described his relationship with nightlife entrepreneur Obi Cubana and entertainment promoter Cubana Chief Priest as that of close associates, likening them to “brothers from the same family,” while noting differing political alignments among them.

Chidi Mike criticized what he referred to as the “City Boy movement,” arguing that current economic conditions require greater sensitivity to the struggles of ordinary Nigerians.

He stated that citizens should not be influenced by political messaging that does not, in his view, reflect the reality of widespread hardship.

He also addressed political discourse involving opposition figures, urging the public not to dismiss individuals he described as being misrepresented in political conversations.

In his remarks, he emphasized the need for unity among Igbo political actors and broader collaboration across regions.

Speaking in Igbo, he said …

“Relationship between me, Obi Cubana and Cubana ChiefPriest is like three brothers from the same parents. My brothers are doing the City Boy movement, I called them and told them that the movement is not good because Nigerians are sûffering. As for me, I love my fellow human beings more than money. Just because of position, my fellow Igbo brothers are afraid to speak up. Nigerians should stop listening to someone like Kenneth Okonkwo, he is a distraction. Peter can’t be a black man today and you expect him to change to a white man tomorrow. The only people that can save Nigeria now are Obi-Kwankwaso via NDC.”
