A woman has triggered a heated debate on social media after declaring that she would immediately cut ties with anyone who orders a well-done steak on a date.

The comment, shared via a viral post on X, has divided users across age groups and dating cultures, raising fresh conversations about personal standards, compatibility, and so-called “red flags” in modern relationships.

The woman, whose identity remains unknown, made the statement while discussing dating preferences, insisting that food choices can be a deal-breaker.

Her blunt delivery quickly caught attention, with thousands of reposts, likes, and reactions within hours. While some users laughed it off as humour, others accused her of being intolerant and elitist.

A comment that set timelines ablaze

If we go to a restaurant together and you place an order for a well-done steak? Heh. Just know that you are never seeing me again. You are never in your life going to cross paths with me again. Don’t ask me questions. Go about your way, I go about mine,” she said.

The post sparked arguments about whether such standards are harmless preferences or unfair judgements.

Food enthusiasts weighed in, explaining steak doneness, while others argued that compatibility should go beyond what someone eats.

Not the first food-related dating debate

This is not the first time food choices have stirred online dating debates. In August 2024, a similar argument went viral when a Lagos-based influencer dismissed dates who disliked seafood, sparking days of discourse.
