Nollywire sat down with Tina Mba and Kelechi Udegbe for the third part of its “In Conversation” series with the stars of Lyndsey Efejuku’s ‘Remi and Nneoma’, a film rooted in family, loss and the weight of cultural obligation.

Like the story itself, the conversation starts with family and quickly turns into a passionate reflection on marriage, culture and consequences.

Asked why family is often filled with conflict, Mba traces it back to “creation”, arguing that differences in personality, upbringing and leadership within the home naturally create tension. But for her, family remains central: “all you have, really”.

The idea that family is both an anchor and a source of strain also sits at the heart of ‘Remi and Nneoma’, which explores how relationships are tested by grief and responsibility.

The conversation takes a sharper turn when a younger perspective questions the need for weddings and traditional rites like bride price. Mba doesn’t hold back.

“There’s a reason,” she says, describing marriage rites as more than just cultural formalities. To her, they are symbolic, spiritual acts that establish identity, responsibility and accountability between two people and before family and a higher authority.

Udegbe backs the broader point, reflecting on how family structure and upbringing shape how people relate to others, while also noting how cultural practices are fading because “we’re not telling it”.

From there, the discussion expands into culture, faith and consequence, with Tina Mba stressing that actions, good or bad, always carry weight.

“Do good,” she says plainly. “You may think you’ll escape it… but you won’t.”

The conversation builds on earlier insights from director Lyndsey Efejuku’s approach to portraying grief and Martha Ehinome and Charles Born’s reflections on performance and emotional truth.

Watch the full conversation to catch the complete exchange, including their thoughts on modern relationships, tradition and the story behind their film.

Five2 Entertainment’s ‘Remi and Nneoma’ begins showing exclusively in cinemas on June 26, 2026, and it is distributed by Nile Entertainment.
