Players of Paris Saint-Germain paid their respects to the late Diogo Jota ahead of their UEFA Champions League clash against Liverpool at Anfield.

According to RMC Sport, the PSG squad visited a memorial site set up outside Anfield, where they laid flowers in honour of the Portuguese forward, who died in a traffic accident alongside his brother, André Silva, in July last year.

The gesture took place on the eve of their quarter-final second-leg encounter in the city.

    Portuguese contingent lead tribute

PSG’s Portuguese players, including Vitinha, João Neves and Nuno Mendes, were at the forefront of the tribute. The club’s sporting director, Luís Campos, also took part.

Images shared by local media showed members of the delegation placing white flowers at the site, with the visit reflecting the strong emotional connection within the Portuguese football community following Jota’s passing.

    Hillsborough victims also remembered

The PSG squad also paid respects to victims of the Hillsborough disaster, which remains one of the darkest moments in English football history.

The tragedy, which claimed the lives of 97 Liverpool supporters in 1989, continues to hold deep significance at Anfield.

A moment of silence is scheduled before kickoff, with players from both teams expected to wear black armbands in remembrance.
