Thirty years after Tupac Shakur was killed, the murder trial is finally beginning. The prosecution’s case now faces a brutal credibility problem: the defendant made admissions that helped bring the case forward, but he has also recanted them and is on record saying he lies. Roland Martin opens with the central problem hanging over the case: Davis has previously bragged about participating in the murder, but now says he was not involved. Matt Manning says a case this old presents serious problems prosecutors do not face in newer cases, including fading memories, questions about evidence and chain of custody, and the difficulty of overcoming reasonable doubt after three decades. Candace Kelley says the public has not seen evidence such as DNA, forensic evidence or blood stains tying Davis to the killing. She says his own admissions are what pushed the case forward, including statements made outside the protection of his prior agreement. But she also points to the prosecution’s credibility problem: Davis has recanted and is already on record saying he lies. Michael Imhotep says prosecutors may have more evidence than the public has seen and asks a larger unresolved question: who else was involved in Tupac Shakur’s killing, and where are they? He also points to the broader human cost of the era, noting that Tupac was killed, Biggie was killed, Suge Knight is in prison, and “black people lost out on that battle.” #RolandMartinUnfiltered #BlackStarNetwork #TupacShakur #Tupac #MurderTrial #HipHop Black Star Network Partner: Chapter Chapter and its affiliates are not connected with or endorsed by any government entity or the federal Medicare program.
