Walk into any beauty retailer right now and you will see shelves full of “inclusive” skincare. The language is there. The imagery is there. But the results? Still inconsistent.

Black women continue to deal with hyperpigmentation, sensitivity, and uneven tone that many mainstream products simply do not address properly. Either the formulations are too aggressive, or they are so generic they do nothing at all.

And then there is the marketing. “Suitable for all skin types” has become the industry’s favourite escape clause. It sounds inclusive, but often means non-specific and under-researched.

We are not a niche. We are not an afterthought. And we are definitely not new.

The brands that are getting it right are the ones that start with us, not add us later. They understand undertones, barrier sensitivity, and the long term impact of inflammation on darker skin.

The rest are still playing catch up.

What we need now is less hype and more honesty. Less influencer buzz and more clinical credibility. Because glowing skin is not about trends. It is about products that actually work for the skin we live in.
