I don’t know about you, but Washington, D.C. is my favorite city in the United States. I grew up right outside of Chicago and currently call New York City home, so I have seen my fair share of big cities with even larger personalities. But something that has always charmed me about D.C. is the way the homes are constructed. Tall and rich with history, sometimes splashed in color, serving federal, colonial, and Victorian realness. Add to that all the history in the city, and the National Mall, and it’s just a wonderful place to be at any time of year.

But it’s especially wonderful during the summer months, when the sun is shining bright on all that beauty. I was reminded of that when I had the chance to stay in a dream residence while traveling with my family to D.C. for a weekend. I stayed at an accommodation that not only honored the architecture and history I love, but also offered some serious luxury.

Rosewood Washington, D.C., in the stunning and pricey Georgetown neighborhood, is a true gem. In addition to some beautiful hotel rooms and suites, it houses eight townhouses. A splurge, those homes range in price (but expect to pay close to $1k and over per night). They offer you more privacy than a traditional hotel and give you a modern lodging experience. Think a private Airbnb but with all the luxurious hotel amenities people often give up when they choose not to book at a hotel, including 24-hour in-suite dining. The townhouses are in the colonial style and were built more than 100 years ago! But trust, there’s nothing old and ashy about these accommodations. Everything has been renovated to a top-tier level.

The particular townhouse we stayed at for a short time was elevated off the ground, adding to that privacy feel without feeling completely cut off from the street (and from running down the stairs to pick up some takeout, of course). It was also situated near the C&O Canal, which is a nice natural wonder to take in during a walk. Inside, things were both cozy and opulent. And don’t forget spacious. The townhouse is multilevel. There is a small downstairs level that includes a half bathroom and an area for guests to wash clothes (detergent is already in supply!). Upon entry to the townhouse is a living room with a relaxing couch that opens into a pullout. Staff, knowing we were bringing children, went out of their way to provide books for our boys, including a Spiderman comic, which was a big hit for my eldest son. Up a small set of stairs is the kitchen. It was an incredibly welcoming area with its stone table and booth-like seating, offering comfortable, cushioned moments for meals. It wasn’t a massive area, but it was well lit with new, state-of-the-art appliances and shining cutlery and dishware, ready for guests to enjoy. And attached is access to a patio area, where I would go to do some work during my stay, filled with greenery and surrounded by a large fence. Again, privacy. The only people who can access it are the guests and staff bringing items for said guests through a back route.

Up another small set of stairs is the bedroom, which housed a massive King bed and, like the living room area encountered upon entry, an equally large television. Another short set of stairs would take you to the bath area, which had a large shower space, and to the side, a luxurious (and large) marble tub for soaking after a day of sightseeing. An added bonus will always be a toilet with a bidet and warm seat, as well as his-and-hers sinks.

The townhomes certainly feel like a suite experience maximized. For those who want to stay in the lap of luxury and still have access to doting, warm staff, you get that and so much more. In addition to the Canal, an elite shopping experience is also in walking distance from the Rosewood Washington D.C. From luxury to match the vibes, to staples like J. Crew, you can spend big or within your budget and make a day of it as you walk around Georgetown’s cobblestone streets and try local eateries.

There’s so much surrounding Rosewood Washington D.C. to draw you in, but nothing beats what’s inside the actual hotel. You have access to the very hip CUT D.C., from legendary chef Wolfgang Puck. For the summer, the spot has Saturday Spins, a rooftop party with a DJ, and sangria service, featuring a made-to-order sangria bar. And on the ground, an ice cream cart from Executive Pastry Chef Ligia Barro that is inspired by their Brazilian background is on hand for guests. Think corn and caipirinha ice cream, sorbets and more. And wellness is a big part of the experience at Rosewood. There’s a fitness center you can hit up for a workout, an infinity pool on the hotel’s rooftop, and in-room spa treatments are offered if you want some extra TLC.

But for me, I was most comfortable and relaxed just kicking back in the townhouse with my family. From getting fresh air on the patio, indulging in the in-room breakfast options, to eating McDonald’s in the state-of-the-art kitchen and cozying up in bed watching TV together, the experience offers suite-style extravagance with just the right amount of energy to make it truly feel like home.
