Described as the finest grouping ever assembled, the landmark curation features over 300 historically significant timepieces amassed over the course of 25 years.Highlighting the maison's century-long mastery of form and function, the collection spans across Cartier’s Paris, New York, and highly coveted London workshops. The assortment zeroes in on the brand's most adventurous and unconventional case shapes, spotlighting extremely low-production London-era models. Standout pieces include a 1987 Cartier London Crash constructed from yellow gold with a distorted oval case, alongside a deeply curved 1960s Driver’s watch designed to rest ergonomically on the wrist.Additional rarities range from sculptural Octagonal and Baignoire variations to elusive silhouettes like the Pebble, the Asymmetrical, and the Stirrup. Free from high-volume manufacturing, many of the featured timepieces are known to be unique or produced in incredibly limited quantities. Together, the robust catalog is expected to fetch in excess of $15 million USD.“The appeal of vintage Cartier lies in its ability to capture a moment in design history while remaining entirely timeless. Whether in the bold asymmetry of the Cartier Crash watch or the refined proportions of the Cartier Baignoire Allongée, each watch reflects a unique dialogue between artistry and innovation. This collection is remarkable not only for its breadth, but for its depth – particularly in its unprecedented assembly of Cartier London pieces, many of which are among the most important examples ever to appear on the market,” said Sam Hines, Global Chairman of Sotheby’s Watches."The Shapes of Cartier" auction first takes place on April 24 at Sotheby’s Hong Kong, followed by May 10 at Sotheby’s Geneva and June 15 at Sotheby’s New York.
