Chelsea have been urged to move for Victor Osimhen as a long-term solution to their ongoing striker issues, with former midfielder Emmanuel Petit backing the Nigerian to thrive at Stamford Bridge.

Osimhen has continued his strong form with Galatasaray, registering 20 goals and seven assists across all competitions this season, reinforcing his status as one of Europe’s most consistent forwards.

    Petit identifies Osimhen as solution

Chelsea’s struggles to replace Didier Drogba have been well documented, with several high-profile signings failing to deliver sustained impact in the number nine role.

Petit believes Osimhen has the mentality and physical profile to succeed where others have fallen short.

“Since Drogba, I think there’s been a curse around the number nine at Chelsea. I think it’s different with Osimhen because this guy has a really big personality and character, he could be the man to break that curse.”

The Frenchman highlighted the striker’s aggressive style and competitive edge as key attributes suited to the Premier League.

“The way he plays on the pitch is a pain for defenders… This guy is very aggressive. He has something to prove.”

    Premier League move under consideration

Osimhen’s trajectory has remained upward since his time at Napoli, despite his eventual exit from the Serie A side.

His move to Galatasaray has not slowed his output, and interest from top European clubs continues to grow.

Petit admitted surprise that the striker did not move to England earlier in his career.

“When he left Napoli, I was hoping that he was going to come to the Premier League, I have no idea why he chose Galatasaray.”

    Strategic fit for Chelsea rebuild

Chelsea are actively pursing attacking reinforcements as part of a squad overhaul, and Osimhen is viewed as a high-impact option capable of delivering immediate results.

“I think he has the character, the personality, and the background to play in the Premier League,” Petit added.
