Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema are officially expanding the highest-grossing horror franchise in history with a new prequel titled The Conjuring: First Communion. The upcoming theatrical feature has officially secured its lead stars to portray the early years of famed paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. The cinematic project marks a major shift into the origins of the ghost-hunting couple, following the massive success of 2025's The Conjuring: Last Rites, which was initially billed as the main timeline's final installment. Actors Garrett Wareing and Amanda Fix will step into the iconic roles previously popularized by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga. Directed by filmmaker Rodrigue Huart, the narrative focuses on the early, formative years of the Warrens' demonology careers before they became legendary figures in the paranormal community. The decision to greenlight a prequel comes directly after Last Rites shattered box office expectations, hauling in a franchise-best $487 million USD worldwide. Franchise veterans Richard Naing and Ian Goldberg are writing the screenplay, ensuring creative continuity with their previous script work on The Nun II. Universe creator James Wan remains involved, while long-time producer Peter Safran returns to steer the film under the New Line banner alongside executive producers John Rickard, Natalia Safran, and Romel Adam. The Conjuring: First Communion is officially scheduled to launch in theaters globally on September 10, 2027.
