SummaryNew Era taps Yoichi Ochiai and Eirakuya for a collaborative drop that fuses Edo‑period textile heritage with modern “Digital Nature” philosophyReleasing on May 13, the drop features a 59FIFTY cap and an oversized tee, both featuring unique, traditionally dyed tenugui fabricNew Era has revealed a unique triple collaboration with media artist Yoichi Ochiai and Eirakuya, Japan's oldest cotton cloth merchant. The collection represents a fusion of traditional Japanese craftsmanship and modern "Digital Nature" philosophy. By integrating Eirakuya’s historic patterns with Ochiai’s artistic vision and New Era's iconic headwear silhouettes, the project creates a bridge between the heritage of the Edo period and contemporary street culture. The designs incorporate Ochiai’s artwork “Computer Nature Anti-Real Virtual: Null Variations Flow”, expressed through traditional tenugui fabric techniques. The project explores the intersection of technology, tradition, and art, continuing New Era’s ongoing Kyoto program that bridges global brands with Japanese heritage. The collaboration centers on a graphic T-shirt and the 59FIFTY Cap. The cap is constructed entirely from tenugui fabric; each cap is unique, made from a single cloth piece. Meanwhile, th T-shirt boasts an oversized short-sleeve silhouette with tenugui fabric boldly placed on the back. Both items highlight fluid, abstract motifs inspired by Ochiai’s exploration of existence and non-existence, rendered through traditional dyeing and cutting methods. The collaboration is scheduled for release on May 13 through New Era Japan's official online store and select flagship locations, with prices ranging from ¥6,050 - ¥11,000 JPY (approx. $40 to $75 USD).
