A man has gone viral after reportedly digging up his deceased sister’s grave and taking her skeleton to a bank to prove she had died, following a dispute over withdrawing money from her account.

Incident at Odisha Grameen Bank Branch

The incident occurred at the Maliposi branch of the Odisha Grameen Bank in Patana block of Keonjhar district.

The man, identified as Jeetu Munda, 50, from Dianali village, had been attempting to withdraw ₹20,000 from his late sister’s account.

His sister, Kalra Munda, 56, reportedly died on January 26, 2026.

    Repeated Bank Visits

Jeetu said he visited the bank multiple times but was repeatedly told that the account holder must be present to access the funds.

Despite informing officials that his sister had passed away, he alleged that his explanation was not accepted.

He later said the repeated rejection pushed him into frustration, leading to the extreme action of exhuming her remains.

    Jeetu Explains His Action

Speaking to reporters, Jeetu said: “I have run several times to the bank, and the people there told me to bring the account holder to withdraw money deposited in her name. Though I told them that she had died, they did not listen to me and insisted on bringing her to the bank. Therefore, out of frustration, I dug the grave and brought out her skeleton as proof of her death.”

    Police Arrive at the Scene

Police were called to the bank after the incident drew attention.

The Patana Police Station officer in charge, Kiran Prasad Sahu, said Jeetu was unaware of banking procedures and legal requirements.

He stated: “Jeetu is an illiterate tribal man. He does not know what the legal heir or nominee is. The bank officials have failed to make him understand the procedure to withdraw money from the dead person’s account.”

    Police Mediate Resolution

Jeetu was later seen speaking with police officers in front of the bank, where he was assured that the matter would be resolved properly.

Authorities reportedly promised to assist him in withdrawing the funds through the correct legal process.

    Remains Reburied

After the intervention, the skeleton of Kalra Munda was taken back and reburied at the graveyard in the presence of police officers.
