Mallori Johnson is set to star opposite Angourie Rice in the upcoming psychological thriller ‘Steal Away,’ inspired by Karolyn Smardz Frost’s non-fiction book, ‘Steal Away Home.’

The story follows Fanny (Rice), a naive teenager whose journey to adulthood begins when her charitable family takes in Cécile (Johnson), a mysterious refugee. As the two girls develop an intense and obsessive bond, Fanny becomes captivated by Cécile’s way of navigating life, sparking a dangerous awakening of desire and jealousy. Gradually, both girls realize that the benevolent world they inhabit is not at all what it appears.

Directed by Clement Virgo, who co-wrote the script alongside Tamara Faith Berger, the film is produced by Damon D’Oliveira and Virgo for Conquering Lion Pictures (Canada), alongside Peter De Maegd and Tom Hameeuw for Potemkino (Belgium).

The executive producing team includes Paula Devonshire (Indian Horse), Caitlin Grabham (Brother), Laurie May (Infinity Pool), and Noah Segal (Blackberry), with Edvard van ‘t Wout serving as associate producer.

The star-studded ensemble cast also features Lauren Lee Smith, Idrissa Sanogo, Arnold Pinnock, Isabelle Menal, Denise M’Baye, Gloria Mampuya, Matteo Simoni, Nola Elvis Kemper, and Hilde Van Mieghem.

Distributed by Elevation Pictures in Canada, ‘Steal Away’ opens in theaters on July 17. Check out the pulse-pounding trailer here.
