Black Millionaires Podcast Ford says artificial intelligence and automation helped improve its vehicle quality, but the company also learned a major lesson: machines could not replace experienced engineers. According to reports, Ford hired, promoted, or brought back more than 350 veteran technical specialists after realizing its Al systems were missing problems that experienced workers knew how to catch. These engineers are now helping train younger employees, lead design reviews, and improve the data used to train Ford's automated quality systems. Charles Poon, Ford's vice president of vehicle hardware engineering, said Al is a useful tool, but it only works as well as the information used to train it. Ford reportedly admitted it had underestimated the value of institutional knowledge from longtime engineers who had worked through multiple vehicle development cycles. The shift comes as Ford works to repair its reputation for quality after years of recalls. The company has now moved away from simply finding and fixing problems after production and is focusing more on catching issues earlier in the design and manufacturing process. The strategy appears to be helping. Ford recently ranked No. 1 among mass-market brands in J.D. Power's initial quality study, marking a major turnaround from just a few years ago.
