Liverpool strengthened their push for a top-five Premier League finish with a late 2-1 victory over Everton in a dramatic Merseyside derby.

A stoppage-time header from Virgil van Dijk secured all three points after Mohamed Salah had earlier opened the scoring in what could be his final appearance in the fixture.

Liverpool took the lead in the first half when Salah finished at the back post following a turnover and assist from Cody Gakpo.

Everton responded after the break through Beto, who converted from close range to level the contest and shift momentum in favour of the hosts.

Both sides created opportunities in a competitive second half, but it was Liverpool who found the decisive moment. Deep into stoppage time, Van Dijk rose from a corner to head home the winner and secure a crucial victory.

Key moments shaped the outcome of the game

Everton had started strongly, with Giorgi Mamardashvili producing an early save to deny Beto, while Iliman Ndiaye had a goal ruled out for offside.

Liverpool capitalised shortly after, with Salah’s goal giving them control of the first half.

Everton continued to threaten, and a defensive clearance from James Tarkowski prevented Gakpo from restoring Liverpool’s lead earlier in the second period.
