Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, has declared that if elected president, he would take decisive action against insecurity, insisting that the Nigerian state must reclaim full control from criminal groups.

Speaking during an interview with broadcaster Rufai Oseni, Obi was asked what he would do about the continued captivity of schoolchildren, teachers, and other kidnapping victims across the country.

In response, he argued that a nation cannot have terrorists and a government competing for authority, stressing that one side must be firmly in charge.

The former Anambra governor pointed to his record in office, claiming that he confronted insecurity directly and created an environment that made it difficult for kidnappers and other criminal elements to operate within the state.

He maintained that leadership requires urgency and personal commitment, adding that he would immediately return home to address any major security crisis affecting the country.

Obi also reaffirmed his commitment to Nigeria, stating that despite spending years abroad, he never sought citizenship elsewhere and has remained devoted to the country.

Rufai Oseni asked: On security, our children and teachers are still in captivity, and a retired Major General recently di£d while being held hostage. What would you do if you were President?

Mr. Peter Obi said: “If I am President today, it is either the terrørists are in charge of the country or I am in charge—one person must be in charge or we declare w@r on insecurity.

Go and ask about my record when I was Governor. I confrønted insecurity head-on. Even notørious kidnappers like Evans and many others could not operate in Anambra and were forced to flee. If I am outside the country and there is a crisis at home, I will return immediately. I am ready to d!e for Nigeria. I lived abroad for years, yet I never considered obtaining a foreign passport. I have only one passport—the Nigerian passport.”
