    On May 14, 1961, a Greyhound bus carrying interracial Freedom Riders was attacked by a white mob in Anniston, Alabama, in one of the ugliest displays of racist violence in modern American history, highlighting the ongoing struggle for civil rights and the need for continued vigilance against the erosion of hard-won rights.
