A wave of condemnation has followed a viral video showing uniformed men storming an Assemblies of God church in Ughelli, Delta State, where a pastor and his wife were assaulted.

    Incident sparks public anger

The incident, which occurred on April 12, 2026, has drawn widespread reactions on social media, with many Nigerians demanding accountability.

In the footage, the men were seen physically attacking the couple and allegedly spraying tear gas on them before leaving the premises.

The exact cause of the confrontation remains unclear as authorities have yet to release an official statement.

    Calls for justice intensify

Eyewitnesses and online users have continued to express concern over the use of force within a place of worship.

A member whose voice could be heard in the video, called for justice as the attackers exited the church compound.

The royal rangers is a paramilitary group in the Assemblies of God church. Back then before joining the group you must first be a member of the church. Ìt’s obvious they’ve started recruiting outsiders“ one social media user wrote.

Another commenter added, “This can only happen in church. Not even the president can order his men to arrest or go to the mosque and behave like goat.”

This incident comes months after a similar controversy in 2025, when security operatives were accused of excessive force during a raid on a religious gathering in Rivers State, prompting public debate on law enforcement conduct.
