A Nigerian man has shared a painful lesson about living within one’s means after revealing that he is facing eviction from his apartment over his inability to renew his rent.

In a video shared on X (formerly Twitter), he disclosed that his rent expired in February and he has been unable to raise money for renewal despite repeated reminders from his landlord. He now has just three days to vacate the apartment and says he has nowhere to go.

    In his words, he said:

“My only advice to young boys coming up that want to rent a house to stay: live below your means. No go dey live above your means. This advice is coming from a place of pain and agony. Make you no go cry like me.”

He admitted that his financial struggles were partly caused by his reckless lifestyle and desire to meet society’s standards so he could be seen as a “big boy.”

According to him, he made the mistake of renting a two-bedroom apartment despite living alone, when he could have opted for a cheaper self-contained apartment.

“I don’t want anyone to pity me. It was my reckless lifestyle that got me here and the fact that I wanted to live above my means. I wish I knew, I would have rented just a self-con. I go rent two-bedroom flat, and na only me dey stay,” he added.

The man also revealed that he quit Yahoo after renting the apartment because he realised the source of income did not align with his future. He stressed that he was not seeking pity but would appreciate any assistance offered.

His story has sparked conversations online, with many advising young people to prioritise financial stability over appearances.
