Ugandan socialite and businesswoman Zari Hassan has advised women on relationships, arguing that being unfaithful to a man who does not contribute to their wellbeing could be considered a form of self-defense.

In a video making the rounds on X (formerly Twitter), she maintained that a man has a responsibility to care for his woman, urging women who find themselves in such situations to do what they feel is right.

“Cheating on a man when a man who doesn’t do anything for you is self-defense. If he doesn’t do anything, it’s his responsibility to take care of you. Go for it, baby. Go. Go for it, woman. Go ahead. If it’s for a good reason, go ahead,” she said.

Zari also addressed those who might accuse her of encouraging women to cheat, insisting that she was only sharing her personal opinion and was not forcing anyone to follow her advice.

She further acknowledged that people have different circumstances and warned women that whatever decision they make comes with its own consequences.

“I know some people are going to be saying, ‘Oh, I’m misleading women, I’m misleading women.’ Listen, I’m not misleading anyone. I’m just saying what I feel should be done.

“And there’s a lot of people who are going to agree with me, and there’s a lot who are going to disagree with me. But at the end of the day, I’m saying, it’s your own risk. Remember, everyone’s situation is different,” she added.

Her controversial comments have since divided social media users, with some agreeing that financial responsibility is important in relationships, while others criticised her for appearing to justify infidelity.
