Boomman says he invested over $500K in Money Mu and spent $80K on a Lil Durk feature, but Loon challenges his “something out of nothing” claim and presses him on artist rights. In this clip from It’s Up There, Boomman and Loon go deeper into the fallout surrounding Money Mu and Authentic Empire. Loon begins with a larger music-business question: Once a label has made money from an artist, the relationship has deteriorated and the artist wants out, when should the original agreement be reconsidered? Boomman says he is not completely against amending a deal or giving something back. But he draws a line when an artist publicly attacks him or harms his company before attempting to resolve the dispute privately. That brings the conversation directly to Money Mu. Boomman says he and Money Mu eventually had a two-hour conversation that cleared up several misunderstandings. He denies taking 100 percent of Money Mu's publishing and says their original agreement lasted two years. Boomman then reveals how much he says Authentic Empire invested. According to Boomman, he put more than $500,000 into Money Mu's career. But when Boomman describes the investment as making “something out of nothing,” Loon pushes back. Loon argues that money is not the only form of motion. Money Mu had already spent years doing the groundwork—making music, moving through clubs, building relationships and creating enough momentum for Boomman to notice him in the first place. Boomman clarifies that by “nothing,” he means Money Mu wasn't generating significant money from the music at that time. That difference becomes the center of the debate: Does the artist who creates the foundation deserve credit for the motion—or does the executive who supplies the capital and industry relationships create the real breakthrough? Boomman says he saw himself in Money Mu. As a former independent artist, he believed Money Mu deserved an opportunity and says he wanted to use his success to “bless” another artist from Atlanta. Then the numbers get bigger. Boomman says he helped bring Moneybagg Yo into the picture, put Foogiano on a record and later received an opportunity to secure a Lil Durk feature. Boomman says he spent approximately $80,000 on Durk. But according to Boomman, Money Mu later said he never cosigned that decision.
