Boomman says Money Mu maintained ownership in their deal—but Loon questions what that ownership meant when Authentic Empire still controlled the records connected to its investment. Full Description Boomman enters Loon’s hot seat and responds to the accusations surrounding his name, Authentic Empire and his relationships with former artists. The conversation begins with Ray Daniels. Boomman claims Ray made hundreds of thousands of dollars discussing his name while helping create a public narrative that painted him as a scammer. Boomman says Ray once described him as a brother, but argues that a real brother would have called him privately before questioning his character and business in public. Loon then moves the conversation toward Money Mu and the part of record deals that artists and labels often describe differently: ownership versus control. Boomman says he does not own 100 percent of everything, but confirms that he controls the records connected to the money he invested. Loon challenges that explanation and argues that ownership can become meaningless when another party retains the power to control the music. The exchange becomes tense when Boomman tells Loon, “Don’t do this with me,” before defending the resources, money, relationships and industry infrastructure he says Authentic Empire supplied. Boomman also explains gross-receipt deals and why labels expect to receive their percentage and recoup their investment before the artist receives significant revenue. But Loon asks a different question: Once the label has made its money, the artist is unhappy and the relationship is collapsing, when should the agreement change? Should an artist eventually receive greater control of the masters? Is Boomman simply operating according to accepted music-business practices—or can a deal follow industry standards and still become unfair? Watch the complete conversation and decide for yourself.
