Police bodycam footage now circulating online captures the immediate aftermath of King Von’s fatal 2020 shooting from inside the Atlanta hospital where both the rapper and Timothy “Lul Timm” Leeks were taken for treatment. The video shows an officer entering Leeks’ room at Grady Memorial Hospital and placing him in handcuffs as investigators were still piecing together what happened outside the Monaco Hookah Lounge.

Leeks is seen lying in a hospital bed when the officer approaches and tells him, “I don’t know what’s all going on, but apparently you are in custody.” The footage, uploaded Monday by YouTube channel Kalavisheni, then follows officers outside the room as they confer about the case. During those conversations, police learn that Von had been pronounced dead elsewhere in the hospital.

Von, whose legal name was Dayvon Bennett, was shot after an altercation between two groups outside the downtown Atlanta lounge escalated into gunfire on Nov. 6, 2020. Authorities said six people were shot. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation later identified Von and 34-year-old Mark Blakely as the two people who died, correcting initial reports that put the death toll at three.

    Charges Filed, Charges Dropped

Leeks, an associate of Quando Rondo who was also wounded during the shooting, was taken into police custody at Grady. Atlanta investigators secured a murder warrant the next day, and he was eventually charged with felony murder in connection with Von’s death. He was released on a $100,000 bond in 2021 while the case remained pending.

That prosecution never reached a jury. Attorney Noah Pines confirmed in August 2023 that the case had been dismissed before prosecutors obtained an indictment against Leeks. Reports at the time indicated that prosecutors had come to view the shooting as potentially justified under self-defense, but the dismissal did not produce a trial verdict or a judicial finding of innocence.

The footage has gained new attention while King Von’s killing is being discussed inside another courtroom. Federal prosecutors opened their murder-for-hire case against Lil Durk in Los Angeles this week, alleging Von’s death provided the motive for a retaliation plot against Quando Rondo. Prosecutors accuse Durk of financing an August 2022 attack targeting Rondo that instead killed his cousin, Saviay’a Robinson. Durk has pleaded not guilty.

The government’s theory places the confrontation captured in the newly surfaced hospital footage near the beginning of the events prosecutors are now asking a federal jury to consider. Leeks, however, is not facing prosecution for Von’s death. His 2020 case remains dismissed.
