Turn on British TV or film right now and you will see more Black faces than ever before. That is progress. But visibility is not the same as equity.

Black British actors, writers, and creators are driving some of the most compelling stories in UK entertainment. Yet behind the scenes, the same barriers remain. Limited roles. Typecasting. Short term opportunities instead of long term investment.

There is also a pattern of breakthrough moments that are not sustained. A show hits, a star rises, and then the industry moves on without building a pipeline.

    Representation without structure is fragile.

What is encouraging is that more creators are taking control. Independent production, digital platforms, and global audiences are opening doors that traditional systems have kept closed.

But the question remains. Why are we still having to create alternative routes just to be seen properly?

Black British talent is not emerging. It has been here. The industry is just catching up.
