Senate President Godswill Akpabio has claimed that the rising insecurity in Nigeria is linked to the approaching elections.

Speaking during a plenary session, Akpabio said the surge in violent incidents across the country may be politically motivated and aimed at distracting Nigerians ahead of the polls.

According to him, the situation is expected to reduce once the election period is over.

“You’re seeing insecurity today, it is even increasing because election is coming. As soon as the election is over, watch out, the first two weeks, you’ll not hear any single bomb blast.”

Akpabio further alleged that some individuals are sponsoring insecurity because they lack other strategies to gain political advantage.

He also praised President Bola Tinubu, stating that his performance has attracted more governors to align with him politically.

“People are sponsoring it to distract you. They don’t know what else to do. They know President Tinubu is too good in many areas… Today he has almost 32 governors under his fold.”

The Senate President questioned how opposition parties intend to compete, given what he described as a growing political structure around the current administration.
